چکیده

Introduction Patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) exhibit deficits in social cognition, particularly respect to Theory of Mind (ToM) capacities. It is unclear whether they are associated PD-related dopamine deficiency and modulated by levodopa replacement therapy. Methods A total 15 persons PD 13 healthy controls (HC) participated the study. They performed different neuropsychological tasks, including Faux Pas Recognition Test (FPRT), assessing dimensions cognitive ToM (e.g., detection, inappropriateness, intentions), Reading Eyes (RMET) as an index affective ToM. Persons were tested twice, once under their regular treatment another time after at least 18 h withdrawal (MED-ON MED-OFF, respectively). On either occasion, serum drug levels motor symptom severity [Unified Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS)] measured. Results MED-ON MED-OFF conditions patients confirmed higher former than latter state a corresponding amelioration deficit. In so doing, no performance difference any ToM-related task was identified function Generally, worse both tests. Conclusion have Dopamine replacement, effective for improving condition, does not appear counteract these dysfunctions.

Are dopaminergic pathways involved in theory of mind? A study in Parkinson's disease.

The "orbitofrontal" and "cingulate" frontostriatal loops and the mesolimbic dopaminergic system that modulates their function have been implicated in theory of mind (ToM). Parkinson's disease (PD) provides a model for assessing their role in humans. Results of the handful of previous studies of ToM in PD providing preliminary evidence of impairment remain controversial, mainly because the patie...

Deficits of ‘Cognitive’ and ‘Affective’ Theory of Mind in Euthymic Bipolar Patients Type I

Objective: This study aimed to assess deficits of cognitive and emotional aspects of theory of mind in patients with bipolar disorder type 1 within a remission period. Methods: In this case- control study, 30 bipolar patients and 30 normal individuals were selected through Purposive sampling method for the purpose of the study. Then, they were matched based on their educational ...

Dopaminergic functioning and preschoolers' theory of mind.

Representational theory of mind (RTM) development follows a universal developmental timetable whereby major advances in reasoning about mental representations occur between the ages of 3 and 5 years old. This progression appears to be only absent in the case of specific neurodevelopmental impairments, such as autism. Taken together, this suggests that neuromaturational factors may play a role i...

Early Effects of Reward Anticipation Are Modulated by Dopaminergic Stimulation

The abilities to predict future rewards and assess the value of reward delivery are crucial aspects of adaptive behavior. While the mesolimbic system, including dopaminergic midbrain, ventral striatum and prefrontal cortex have long been associated with reward processing, recent studies also indicate a prominent role of early visual brain regions. However, the precise underlying neural mechanis...

Cognitive deficits in Huntington's disease are predicted by dopaminergic PET markers and brain volumes.

The main aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between dopaminergic markers and brain volumes for striatal and cortical structures, and cognitive performance in patients with Huntington's disease and control subjects. We used PET and MRI data as predictors of performance in tasks assessing executive function, visuospatial ability, episodic memory, verbal fluency, perceptual spee...
